Project Checklists

Field-Ready Checklists for Openings and Compliance.

Use these checklists to align installation teams, streamline inspection programs, and produce clean documentation at project closeout.

Installation Quality Control

  • Confirm opening number, handing, fire rating, and hardware set before installation begins
  • Verify frame is plumb, square, and secure before hanging door slab
  • Check hardware installation against approved submittal — item, finish, and mounting location
  • Test self-closing operation: door closes and latches fully from 90° open position
  • Verify clearances: undercut, top gap, and side gaps are within NFPA 80 tolerances on rated openings
  • Record QC status and any field deviations by opening number before releasing to next trade

Fire Door Inspection

  • Confirm fire-rating label is present, legible, and unobstructed on door and frame
  • Evaluate self-closing mechanism — door must close and latch from any open position without assistance
  • Check all clearances against current NFPA 80 maximums by opening type
  • Inspect hardware condition — hinges, closer, latch, strike, seals — for damage or missing components
  • Identify unapproved modifications: field cuts, added glass, replaced hardware with non-listed items
  • Record each deficiency with location reference, deficiency code, and recommended corrective action

Closeout Documentation

  • Compile completed opening log: all installed openings with hardware set, rating, and QC sign-off
  • Collect all deficiency records and confirm each is resolved or has an assigned owner and target date
  • Include reinspection records for all corrected openings with date and technician sign-off
  • Package digital report: opening-level summary, deficiency register, and compliance status roll-up
  • Archive records for future inspection cycles — minimum one full cycle retention recommended
  • Confirm all as-built deviations are documented and communicated to the project team
